Who says you have to wait for a Tuesday to enjoy some taste-tempting tacos? Baltimore, Maryland, serves up some dynamic places to satisfy your taco cravings. Explore our list of the four top spots to enjoy tacos in Charm City.

Banditos Bar and Kitchen

If you’ve ever traveled to Mexico, you’re likely familiar with the scores of vendors offering Mexican-style street food. Banditos Bar and Kitchen attempts to recreate these flavors for customers.

When you pick up the menu, more than a dozen taco offerings will greet your taste buds. Taking its cues from the Chesapeake Bay, the Dynamic Fish taco features the freshest fish coated in a zesty Old Bay-seasoned batter and fried until crisp. A sweet chili slaw and piquant chipotle mayonnaise accent the flavors of the fish superbly. The Rus and Gus taco delivers Old Bay-battered and fried shrimp with Chihuahua cheese, grilled onions, pico de gallo, and fiery sriracha mayonnaise.

For a play of sweet and savory, order the Al Pastor taco with roasted pork and pineapple, or try the chorizo taco accompanied by salsa verde and queso fresco.

If you choose to dine in, be sure to sample the tequilas and mezcals poured by some of the most personable bar managers you’ll meet in Maryland. Banditos Bar and Kitchen offers two locations to satisfy your taco cravings: one in downtown Baltimore and a newly opened spot in White Marsh. You can also take the Banditos experience home with you by ordering takeout.

Locations: 1118 S. Charles St., Baltimore (Federal Hill) and 8139 Honeygo Blvd., Suite C, Nottingham (White Marsh)

Telephone: 443-835-1517 (Federal Hill) | 443-442-6992 (White Marsh)

Blue Agave Restaurante and Tequileria

“More quality, more variety, more excitement, more TLC.” Blue Agave Restaurante and Tequileria promises to deliver an experience with every bite and beverage.

Blue Agave’s taco specialties pack plenty of flavor and texture in every taco with fillings ranging from carne asada and pulled or grilled chicken to blackened tilapia and beer-battered avocado. Specialty taco varieties consist of al pastor (seasoned pork served on corn tortillas with pina and jicama salsa) to ahi tuna on corn tortillas with a black bean spread.

In addition to the tacos, Blue Agave also delivers hearty offerings of burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas containing house made chorizo sausage and grilled skirt steak with Mexican cheeses.

What good is a meal without an equally good drink to accompany it? Order a delightfully delicious margarita or cocktail, such as the Paloma, Repo Fashioned, or Michelada. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, request one of the tequila flights, which will introduce you to different brands and styles of tequila. Blue Agave offers more than 130 tequilas at its bar.

Clavel

Located in Baltimore’s historic Remington neighborhood, Clavel is a mezcaleria and taqueria serving food rooted in a Sinaloan ritual. Chef and partner Carlos Raba is the culinary tour de force behind this establishment’s cuisine. Experience the tastes of handmade corn and flour tortillas from a fifth-generation Raba family recipe.

These tortillas form the base of some dynamic tacos by Clavel. Sample barbacoa, beef shank, and pork cooked in fresh and dried chiles and served with onions, cilantro, and salsas on a corn tortilla. The Cochinita taco brings together the flavors of pork with bitter oranges and achiote served with house-pickled onions and salsas on a corn tortilla.

While Clavel’s indoor dining space is currently closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, outdoor seating is available Monday through Saturday, with takeout taco options available.

Cocina Luchadoras

Savor the flavors of tacos handcrafted with love from the culinary team of Cocina Luchadoras. This cozy Fells Point taqueria has been delighting Baltimoreans with exceptional tacos and tortas. Cocina Luchadoras has gained attention for its tacos and tortas from Bon Appetit magazine. The publication highlighted the establishment’s Cochinita Pibil taco in a profile titled “Yucatan classic nods to Baltimore’s rapidly growing Mexican population.”

Patrons visit for the Tres Quesabirria Tacos and Consome. This taco specialty features three corn tortillas dipped in birria oil, filled with Mexican Oaxaca cheese, onion, and cilantro mix. If you call yourself a taco novice or want to mix and match fillings to experience the diversity of taco flavorings, order the El Clasico taco trio. This offering allows you to select from al pastor-marinated pork and pineapple topped with onion and cilantro, pork ground chorizo accented with onion and cilantro, grilled chicken garnished with onion and cilantro, and pulled pork carnitas topped with pico de gallo.

In addition to these taco specialties, you can also find variations with grilled shrimp, tilapia, lengua (beef tongue), and marinated pork with achiote and oranges. For a complete immersion into the Mexican cuisine experience, try the sopes (thick handmade corn tortillas) and tamales (corn masa with a filling wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves).

While Cocina Luchadoras remains closed to indoor dining at this time, you can place your order online or by phone for pickup or delivery within the local area.
