The Commentary

Established in 2019, The Commentary has become a local favorite due to its delicious West Coast twist on American fare. The Commentary is a casual modern social house, perfect for spending a leisurely brunch with friends and family. With lots of vegan and gluten-free menu options, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Breakfast menu items include steel-cut oatmeal, huevos rancheros, stacks of pancakes, egg platters, and Benedicts. Be sure to try The Commentary Benedict, made from two homemade herb biscuits, poached eggs, and ricotta cheese sauce.

All breakfast items are available with fresh fruit, breakfast potatoes, artisan bread, bacon, or chicken-apple sausage links. The Commentary also offers a varied selection of coffee drinks, hot teas, smoothies, and fresh juices. 

Visit The Commentary in the Westin Hotel on North Glebe Road. The Commentary is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations are recommended for parties of eight or more.

Ted’s Bulletin and Sidekick Bakery

Ted’s Bulletin and its Sidekick Bakery are known for their modern American breakfast foods. Breakfast is served all day, every day at Ted’s, and includes classic dishes such as combination breakfast platters, pancakes, French toast, hashes, and freshly baked biscuits. For a truly indulgent brunch, check out Ted’s crab Benedict, made from a jumbo lump crab cake and served with a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and homemade English muffin. Lighter breakfast options include avocado toast, grain bowls, and garden omelets. Ted’s also offers breakfast cocktails, including bellinis, bloody Marys, and mimosas.

Bob and Edith’s Diner

Bob and Edith’s Diner has been family-owned and operated for 50 years. This old-fashioned American diner serves breakfast and brunch 24 hours a day. Menu items include egg combination platters (featuring country ham, steak, scrapple, and turkey sausage), omelets, hotcakes, waffles, and French toast. Kids will love the chocolate chip hotcakes. Silver Diner

The chefs at the Silver Diner are committed to using fresh ingredients sourced from local farms. The Silver Diner is very accommodating to special dietary needs, with several vegetarian and gluten-free menu options. Egg combination platters include country-fried steak, cage-free eggs, silver-dollar pancakes, turkey bacon, and fresh vegetables. Brunch specials include a variety of Benedicts, omelets, chicken and waffles, Belgian waffles, and bison huevos rancheros. For a truly indulgent treat, try the Silver Diner’s French toast, made from thick slices of challah bread and stuffed with salted caramel, chocolate chips, and bananas.

Detour Coffee Company

Detour Coffee Company is cozy and relaxing, perfect for a relaxing brunch with family and friends. All coffee is locally roasted and used to make coffee drinks such as flat whites, mochas, macchiatos, Americanos, and lattes. Several kinds of hot tea are also available, including Chinese green tea, peppermint, and herbal chamomile. A wide variety of pastries are made in-house every day at Detour. Croissants (plain, chocolate, and almond), sticky walnut buns, and several types of breakfast bread are always available.

Breakfast items include yogurt and granola bowls as well as breakfast sandwiches. Locals love the Norwegian sandwich, made with smoked salmon, sour cream, dill, capers, egg, and tomato served on a flaky croissant. Brunch is served from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends only. Brunch items include waffles, pancakes, breakfast pizza, steak and eggs, and huevos rancheros. Kick back and enjoy one of Detour’s brunch cocktails, including the bacon bloody Mary, Gaviota, mimosa, or signature sangria.

Detour Coffee Company is on North Jackson Street in Arlington’s busy Clarendon neighborhood. Detour is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
