When you’re looking at vehicles, you may wonder, “what’s the difference between two cars that look similar?” At Koons Clarksville Chevrolet Buick GMC, we can help you find the answers to that question and more. Two vehicles you may be interested in are the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban and the 2022 GMC Yukon. These two SUVs have many similar features with some subtle differences. The best vehicle for you may depend on those differences. Below are descriptions of the features each vehicle offers, and some differences between them.

Exterior

The exterior of the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban has many features to help you access your vehicle and remain comfortable inside it. First, the Suburban has acoustically laminated glass to reduce sound from outside the vehicle. Next, it has an assist step to help you get in and out of the SUV. For your safety and comfort, the Suburban comes with heated exterior mirrors to reduce ice buildup and fogging. The headlights, taillights, and daytime running lamps are all LED on the Suburban. Finally, the vehicle comes with rain sense windshield wipers, which activate automatically when it rains.

The exterior of the 2022 GMC Yukon also has features to help you access and remain comfortable in your vehicle. These include acoustically laminated glass, an assist step, heated outside mirrors, and LED lights. Besides these features, the GMC Yukon has a powered liftgate, active aero shutters which move to reduce drag on the front of the vehicle, increasing its fuel efficiency. The GMC Yukon also has features such as deeply tinted glass to make you feel secure when you’re in the vehicle and increase the security of your belongings when you leave them behind.

Interior

The 2022 Yukon has several interior features to increase the luxury of any trips you make with the vehicle. These features include a 10.2-inch infotainment system display screen which you can use to access your vehicle’s stereo system and other features such as GPS. The front seats of the Yukon are 10-way adjustable power seats, including two-way power lumbar support. The GMC Yukon also has power outlets, including a 12-volt outlet in the front console and a 120-volt outlet in the center console for the front and rear of the vehicle. The vehicle also has three rows of seats.

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban has interior features similar to those of the GMC Yukon. These features include a 10.2-inch infotainment system display screen to access your vehicle’s entertainment and information systems. They also include a 12-volt outlet between the front seats, and two 120-volt outlets in the center console and cargo area, respectively. The seats in the Suburban include two adjustable front seats, second and third-row benches, helping you fit a driver and seven passengers in your car. The front seats have 10-way adjustment capabilities, including two-way power lumbar. There are also nine speakers in the Suburban’s audio system.

Performance

The GMC Yukon and the Chevrolet Suburban have the same engine and dimensions, making their performance really similar. Both vehicles have a 3.5-liter V-8 engine, allowing them to output 335 horsepower, and 383 pounds-feet of torque. An option you have with either vehicle is the ability to replace the standard engine with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which increases the output of the vehicle to 420 horsepower, and 460 pounds-feet of torque. With those outputs, both vehicles can tow up to 8,300 pounds and can carry a maximum payload of 1,714 pounds, making them both powerful work vehicles.

In terms of fuel economy, both vehicles support the same chassis, nearly the same weight, and the same engine, making them equal. In the city, both vehicles get 21 miles per gallon, and on the highway, they get 27 miles per gallon. With the same chassis and wheel diameters, both vehicles have the same turning radius, meaning driving one vehicle feels the same as driving the other. For storage, both vehicles have the same dimensions. Behind the rear seats, both vehicles have 41.5 cubic feet of storage, with 144. 7 cubic feet of maximum storage behind the front seats.

Safety

Like the other features of the Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon, the safety features are very similar. Both vehicles come with seven airbags, automatic emergency braking, and GM’s Buckle to Drive safety system. The SUVs also come with forwarded collision alert, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking assist, and HD rear vision camera systems. Adding to their collection of similarities, the vehicles also come with LATCH systems to keep your child’s safety seats anchored to the vehicles, lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning systems, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

There is a small difference in safety systems between the vehicles, however. The Chevrolet Suburban comes with a following distance indicator, which tells you the gap time in seconds between your vehicle and the one you’re following, which the GMC Yukon doesn’t have.

Trim Options

Trim options are different versions of the same model of vehicle, with each successive trim adding more features and comforts to the vehicle. The Chevrolet Suburban has five trims: the LS, the LT, the RST, the Premier, and the High Country. In comparison, the GMC Yukon has three trims: the SLE, the SLT, and the Denali. While the Suburban has more trim levels, allowing greater control over the number of features your vehicle has, the GMC Yukon Denali has more luxurious features than the Chevrolet Suburban High Country.
